Date: May 30th, 11am - 4pm
Location: CSULA, University Student Union, Los Angeles Room C
That’s right, folks! CSULA cospLAy club is hosting a fighting game tournament with a $50 prize! Read on for more info.
Here are some of the rules. Remember, it’s possible they might change but it’s also possible the world might end tomorrow so the rules are pretty much set.
We’ll be doing pre-registration by email first so email us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can put you on our list. It’s first come, first serve, and we might lag on the response since we’re doing it by hand. If it sounds like it’s a bot then it’s probably Nika responding since she’s a robot.
First of all, the non-refundable enrollment fee must be paid. One of the officers will be collecting it at designated spots to be announce, but the the cut-off will be Friday May 22nd at 4PM PST (21:00 GMT) and the officer to collect it will be Cesar. He’ll be sitting in the 2nd floor lounge in CSULA’s Student Union waiting for any stragglers.
Second, you MUST bring your own controller. All the games we will be using are on the PS2 so a PS2 controller/pad/stick is what you should bring. If you don’t, well, that’s one of the ‘grounds for disqualification’ that we have. It’s not that we’re afraid of this ‘flu’ that shut down the Mexican government, but because it will cut down on the “That dude screwed up the controller, I can’t fight with this, yadda yadda yadda” and other such excuses. Which brings me to the third point.
Don’t be an ass. Seriously, don’t. It’s a tournament with other people and some sort of social etiquette is expected.
Registration is to start at 10 AM and end at 10:30 AM. We DO NOT recommend, advise or encourage you to be late since anyone who hasn’t shown up by then will forfeit their spot.
Now then, that being said.
We should be starting with actual matches at 11 AM.
As to how y’all will be grouped…
There will be five (5) players to a group.
This will make a total of eight (8) groups.
Within each group, the Round Robin will decide your placement points-wise. The best two player from each group will proceed to the elimination rounds.
The curiosity as to why Chun-Li is in the same flyer as Shiranui Mai is not unfounded and we didn’t just throw them in to draw attention.
We will be using five games out of the following list.
King Of Fighter 2002
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Melty Blood Act Cadenza
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Hokuto no Ken
King of Fighters XI
We will be choosing which game to use by lottery. So for the Round Robin, one game will be used. For the first elimination round, the second one will be used and so on and so forth.
And no, once a game is chosen it cannot be chosen again.
There’s many resources out there to show you how these games work, so study up.
And since we can’t just have a tournament without a prize, the first place will receive a $50 gift certificate to GameStop.
On the point of spectators. Why not? Spectate all you want but we can only have so many people in the room due to fire hazard laws and we wouldn’t like a situation like the Street Fighter 4 launch event.
All day parking is available for $6 -last we checked- and we recommend you park in Lot 5 or on top of Parking Structure C since they’re the nearest to the USU.
We will be selling a small variety of snack and drinks.
Ask any questions you feel inclined to ask other than our choice of games go ahead. We’ll make an effort to respond as best we can.
